MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Moonhanger Group has pulled H&H Restaurant’s application for a conditional use permit to sell beer and wine, according to a news release.

Owner of the Moonhanger Group, Wes Griffith, released the following statement:

“The Moonhanger Group has withdrawn H&H Restaurant’s request to Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning for a conditional use to sell beer and wine. When we initially requested a zoning compliance to apply for the license, we were told that the property was zoned Historical Commercial – a zoning designation that was recently changed to not permit the sale of alcohol. We were told we could apply for a “conditional use” and so we did. This quickly became public knowledge and many began to speculate on our intentions. Regarding those speculations, we did not plan to sell liquor; we did not plan to change our hours; we were only planning to offer beer and mimosas for our brunch patrons. While this would have been a welcome addition for many of our customers, it is certainly not important enough to fight over. We’ve served alcohol responsibly at several location for many years, and we’ve stewarded and shown respect for some of this city’s favorite cultural assets. We did not anticipate such fervent opposition and have no desire to engage in divisiveness.”
