Montezuma man arrested after traffic stop leads to drug, contraband seizure

Officers said they noticed suspicious items inside the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A traffic stop in Montezuma led to the discovery of drugs and contraband early Monday, according to the Montezuma Police Department.

An officer conducted the stop September 15 after a vehicle was seen speeding and failing to maintain its lane within city limits. Officers said they noticed suspicious items inside the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.

Inside a large duffle bag, officers found packages wrapped in black tape, altered footballs and other items believed to be consistent with prison contraband. The search uncovered:

  • Tobacco products and vape devices

  • Clothing and shoes

  • Four metal handsaws

  • About 51.56 grams of suspected ecstasy

  • About 81.39 grams of suspected marijuana

  • Ten THC vape pens weighing about 20 grams total

  • One 16-ounce bottle of promethazine syrup

The passenger, identified as Ralik Lampley, claimed ownership of the items, police said. He was arrested and faces several felony charges, including trafficking ecstasy, possession with intent to distribute and distribution of controlled substances.
