Suspect arrested after Montezuma stabbing

Police say victim was taken to hospital after disturbance; suspect charged with multiple offenses

24-year old Demero Schofield has been arrested after a domestic disturbance in Montezuma left a victim with multiple stab wounds, according to police.

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A suspect is in custody after a domestic disturbance in Montezuma left a man with multiple stab wounds, according to police.

Officers with the Montezuma Police Department responded around Wednesday night to a reported disturbance in the area of Vienna Road, according to a news release. When officers arrived, they found the homeowner had been assaulted and suffered multiple lacerations and stab wounds.

Officers, along with Macon County EMS personnel, rendered aid at the scene. The victim was then taken to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

Police said the suspect had left the scene before officers arrived.

Arrest made the following morning

Authorities said 24-year-old Demero Schofield was located and arrested this morning, just before 10:30 am. Officers also found the weapon used in the assault.

Schofield is charged with burglary, theft by taking, and aggravated assault. Police said he acted alone and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Montezuma Police Chief Eric Finch said, “Our prayers go out to the victim in this case, and we pray for his speedy recovery. I am proud of our staff. We developed a plan, and they executed it professionally, which allowed us to apprehend Mr. Schofield without incident.”
