Monroe County Sheriff’s Office working on crime mapping system

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is taking steps to better inform the community with an online crime mapping system.

“We want them to know the type of crime to expect, hopefully they won’t have any crime but there are a lot of victims out there,” Sgt. Lawson Bittick said. “But it just kind of gives them a general idea, it’s no different than researching school systems or the amount of crime in a certain area.”

Bittick says anybody who wants to use the online system will be able to enter an address into the database and see all the general crime that has happened in the immediate area.

It’s the most recent step the Sheriff’s Office has made to relay information to the community. Two weeks ago it began releasing weekly crime reports its Facebook page.

There is no immediate timeline for when the crime mapping system will be complete and available to the public.
