Monroe County deputies arrest man fleeing on I-75, K-9 unit makes apprehension
LaKevin Downs, 24, faces multiple charges including felony fleeing after a chase on I-75 South ends with a K-9 apprehension

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they say was previously banned from the county, after he led deputies on a chase, according to a news release.
Around 2:24 a.m. on February 27, the sheriff’s office says deputies tried to pull over 24-year-old LaKevin Downs near exit 186 on I-75 South. Deputies say Downs refused to stop, and a chase began.
His car crashed near exit 181 near Rumble Road. According to the sheriff’s office, Downs got out and ran.
The sheriff’s office says it tried to track the man with a drone, but it could not stay airborne due to weather conditions.
Ultimately, a K-9 unit was able to find Downs, and deputies say he was taken into custody without further incident.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Downs is being held without bond and facing multiple charges:
- Felony Fleeing
- Obstruction of and Officer (2 counts)
- Multiple traffic violations
- Probation Violation warrant out of Tift County
