Monroe County jail officer arrested, accused of sexual assault of inmate
Monroe County Jail Officer Chandler Sheffield arrested and terminated after an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jail Officer Chandler Sheffield, 22, following an investigation into a possible inappropriate relationship with a female inmate.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Jail Administrative Personnel was first alerted to the possible misconduct on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The Criminal Investigation Division promptly launched an investigation, which led to Sheffield’s arrest.
Sheffield, who had worked at sheriff’s office since November 2023, has since been terminated. He is now facing charges of Sexual Assault of a Person While in Custody and Violation of Oath of Office.
In a statement, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said its committed to thorough investigations and justice, stating that the case will be handled with the same diligence as any other. In a news release, the sheriff’s office says, “I hope that the public will see this incident for what it is- an isolated, poor, individual decision that does not define the dedicated officers of our office.”
This case remains under investigation.
