FORSYTH, Macon (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man is in jail after he led Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase.
According to a news release, deputies attempted to stop 26-year-old Arthur Smith for a traffic violation, but he wouldn’t stop.
The car pursuit began on Highway 74 near Maynard’s Mill Road and ended when Smith intentionally crashed into a gated yard and ran away. He was caught after a 1/2 mile foot chase.
The truck Smith was driving was reported stolen from Dekalb County in December. Deputies found methamphetamine inside.
Smith is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of tools during the commission of a crime, violation of the Georgia controlled substance act and trafficking.
