Monroe County: Gov. Deal Declares State of Emergency
Monroe County EMA Director Matt Perry tells 41NBC News, at least 50 homes were impacted by the weather overnight, with damage ranging from missing shingles to destroyed homes. 41NBC’s Melissa Lee was there early this morning. She first reported long traffic jams on I-75 North. After daybreak, she saw widespread damage on Weldon Road.
Monroe Co. officials say that 10 people were injured during the storm and four of those were taken to the hospital.
The Central Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross is helping people in Monroe County who were impacted by the storm.
The National Weather Service says at least five tornadoes were reported in Georgia. Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency in 16 counties: Bartow, Coweta, Greene, Lamar, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Pickens, Polk, Rabun, Spalding, and Troup counties. He declared emergencies for Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Floyd counties Wednesday night.
