Monroe County DA Says Voter Fraud Investigation Not Over

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Monroe County District Attorney is continuing an investigation into potential voter fraud in the 2011 Forsyth mayoral election.A complaint was filed over alleged absentee voting fraud after the election that year.

At that time, DA Richard Milam says the Secretary of State’s Office launched a year-long investigation.

An investigator interviewed people who may have filled out absentee ballots illegally, or didn’t follow the proper procedure while helping someone else fill one out.

Now, Milam says the results of that investigation are going to the attorney general’s office to determine if any people should face criminal charges for voting fraud.

“I saw evidence of it and when it comes back to us, that’s what we’re going to be looking for. If uh, those cases are in there and we suspect there are one, maybe two, then we’re going to prosecute those people,” said Milam.

Milam also says the investigation showed that neither of the mayoral candidates nor anyone at the board of elections was involved with the alleged fraud.

He says the absentee ballots called into question did not make a difference in the outcome of the 2011 mayor’s race.
