Monroe County Couple Celebrates 75th Wedding Anniversary
Joe and Ezma Chambers, both 94, met when they were just 5 years old. The pair were next door neighbors. Right after they both turned 18, they headed to the Jasper County Courthouse and got married on February 15, 1936.
As they celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary the happy couple reflects on how they have made their marriage last.
Ezma says, “You have to give and take.” She also adds patience is more than a virture when it comes to being married, “You have to be in love, be patient, and work at it.”
Joe says the key to marriage bliss is communication,” You have to tell him what you expect of him.”
The Chambers have a daughter and granddaughter. They both say the true secret to a happy marriage is having faith and being able to forgive.
The couple will travel tomorrow to the Jasper County Courthouse and take a photograph inside the room they were married in for their granddaughter’s scrapbook in honor of their 75th wedding anniversary.
