Minor League Baseball Team Still a While Away for Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you’re hoping to enjoy minor league baseball games in Warner Robins, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer.

Monday night, city council was supposed to sign off to allow a local businessman, John Hughes, to do what’s called a feasibility study on the idea.

That study, more or less, would determine whether the city is ready to have a minor league team.

Even though council seemed to be in favor of going forward with the plan, and even though Hughes told members it would come at no cost to the city, some members said they wanted to see a presentation about exactly what’s being considered before approving anything.

“It’s probably my fault—part of it is,” says councilman Mike Davis.  “I had been to a meeting and I didn’t relay it (the detailed information) to them, but that’s just the way it is sometimes.  Sometimes, things fall through the cracks.  It just fell through the cracks, and I hate it for the gentleman that was here, but hopefully in the next couple of days we’ll have it ironed out and things will move forward.”

Hughes said he wants to protect his financial interests and that a public presentation would put that in jeopardy.

Three council members, Carolyn Robbins, Mike Brashear, and Mike Daley told Hughes they’d like to meet with him in private to get more information.
