(NBC)- Millions of people are taking to the streets across the United States and around the world, protesting the policies of President Donald Trump and his administration.
Organizers estimate demonstrations are happening in all 50 states as part of the “No Kings” movement, marking what they call the third round of major nationwide protests. They are predicting it could become the largest non-violent day of action in American history, with St. Paul, Minnesota serving as the flagship event.
Crowds began gathering early at the Minnesota State Capitol, with thousands showing up throughout the day. Protesters say concerns over immigration enforcement and ongoing conflicts abroad are driving many back into the streets.
In New York City, large crowds filled Midtown Manhattan. Demonstrators there said issues like immigration policy and war were key motivations behind their participation.
“We are fighting for America,” one protester said.
Others echoed similar concerns.
“What brought me out here is that war, that war and how things are being done in this country now,” another protester said.
Out west, large crowds gathered in Los Angeles, where officials installed steel gates near freeway on-ramps in anticipation of potential disruptions. Despite the precautions, demonstrations across the country have remained largely peaceful.
The protests are not limited to the United States. Demonstrations have also taken place internationally, including in Rome, Madrid, Paris, Athens, and London, where some voiced concern about the direction of the U.S.
“Very, very sad. And Americans need to do something. It’s very dangerous. It’s very concerning,” one protester in London said.
Back in the U.S., demonstrators also gathered in more conservative areas, including Brunswick County, North Carolina, highlighting the widespread reach of the movement.
The White House has dismissed the demonstrations, saying in a statement that the protests are being amplified by media coverage and do not reflect broader public concern.
