Million Dollar Grant Awarded to Baldwin Co. Court System

The Baldwin County Court System is taking steps to help individuals who suffer from mental health disorders and substance abuse problems before those issues take a toll on taxpayers.

The county was awarded a $1.2 million federal grant. The Behavioral Health Treatment Court Collaborative program aims to improve treatment and recovery programs.

The goal is to add flexibility to the justice system in hopes of preventing overcrowded jails.

Judge Hulane George says, “We have had very few resources since a number of state closures, shutdowns, lay-offs, and so this will mean a lot to the people.”

$400,000 will be allocated to the county court system over the next 3 years. It’ll help provide additional medication, housing assistance, childcare, and assistance getting to court.

Baldwin was the only county in Georgia and one of 11 communities awarded the grant nationwide. River Edge Behavioral Health Center will work closely with the court system for the next 3 years to help with grant.
