Milledgeville Woman Sues Hospital for Privacy Violation

“Jane Doe” is a female in her mid-twenties. She moved to middle Georgia to take care of a sick relative. She never thought her own husband could give her a sexually transmitted disease, much less her whole world finding out.

“I just felt like I really didn’t want to be here anymore because I had all these people just asking me about it, sending text messages about this, and that, and on Facebook.”

“Jane Doe” tested positive for genital herpes, nearly two years ago. She believes she contracted the disease from her now, former husband.

“I started getting Facebook messages about my condition, then about 2 weeks later a whole bunch of people started calling me at work, coming up to my job saying you have HSV2.”

She says she was tested at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Then, she started receiving text messages from an anonymous person using a “throw away” cell phone. One of the text messages said Ms. Doe “has herpes and I’ve got the doctor papers to prove it.”

She is getting few answers from the Medical Center about her medical records. Her attorney says a police investigation didn’t give them any clues about how this all happened.

“I want them to take responsibility for what happened, I don’t know if someone accessed my records or accidentally gave it to someone…”

The woman in this story filed a lawsuit against the Medical Center of Central Georgia in September 2010.

The Medical Center of Central Georgia says, “Our policy is not to comment on pending or threatened litigation.”
