Milledgeville woman charged after 4-month-old baby injured

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) —A Milledgeville woman is accused of causing multiple injuries, including broken bones, to a four-month-old child while babysitting, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

27-year-old Sara Ellen Smith of Milledgeville was arrested and charged on Monday with cruelty to children in the first degree.

The news release states that on February 23, 2026, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist with an investigation involving a four-month-old child who had multiple injuries.

According to the GBI, the investigation shows that Smith babysat a friend’s four-month-old child in February 2026. While babysitting, Smith caused multiple injuries to the baby, including several broken bones.

Smith is currently booked at the Baldwin County Jail.
