MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  Mary Ashley McCeue teaches first graders at Lakeview Primary in Baldwin County.  She said, even through educating her students is satisfying, it can become overwhelming and challenging at times.

McCeue shared, what she does in order to avoid getting burned out.

“You have to celebrate the wins everyday because a lot of times it is a challenging time in teaching and this year has been very challenging but you have to celebrate. Take a step back and celebrate the wins everyday and know that things are working,” said McCeue.

According to, Midway Hills Primary School Counselor, Sonya Murray, one sign of burnout is depression, another sign, “being frustrated, any little thing that the kids do may frustrate you so that’s sign that you’re probably out and may need to seek some type of professional help.”

McCeue agrees and explains for younger teachers coming into the field, build your support system as quickly as you can.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help because everybody has been in your boat we’ve all been first year teachers and we understand.  So, people are ready to help you and support you and it’s a big village.  It takes a big village to raise a teacher,” said the first grade teacher.

The Baldwin County School District offers its teachers access to Employee Assistance Program a free statewide mental health resource available to teachers and their families.
