Milledgeville Sign Defaced with Racist Graffiti
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County deputies are searching for the suspects responsible for writing a racial slur on a street sign.
Over the weekend, homeowners discovered a sign that once read “Children at Play” was vandalized. The word ‘children’ was blacked out and replaced with the n-word.
Residents near the Meriweather Road area are stunned by the negative message.
“I am surprised, because we’ve never encountered anything like that in this neighborhood,” said Lisa Schinholster.
Baldwin County Commissioner Emily Davis received a phone call about the sign. Davis believes it’s an isolated incident but still a hurtful one.
“We’ve had racial tension in the past,” Davis said, “and occasionally it will raise it’s head.”
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office removed the sign shortly after Davis’ call. The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate this case and has been patrolling the neighborhood all weekend. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at (478)-445-4891.
