Milledgeville one of seven U.S. cities chosen for downtown revitalization assistance
The cities will benefit from the center’s methodology that has helped transform historic downtown and urban neighborhoods for 35 years.
For 12 to 18 months local leaders will receive hands-on technical assistance form experts. Local leaders will be taught how to involve the community in revitalization efforts, plan and executive long-term strategic action and effectively measure the impact of those efforts.
The program is supported by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
President of the Knight Foundation, Carol Coletta, says “Providing people with spaces to connect and participate in neighborhood life is essential to creating the type of cities where people want to live and work.”
Other cities chosen include: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Biloxi, Mississippi; Detroit, Michigan; Gary, Indiana; Lexington, Kentucky; and Miami, Florida.
