Milledgeville man sentenced to prison for meth possession

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A convicted felon who plead guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, was sentenced to federal prison Thursday.

29-year-old Anthony Hitchcock was sentenced to more than 15 years, followed by six years of probation. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, a Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over Hitchcock in 2018 for several traffic violations. After the deputy claims smelling marijuana from the car, then called for back-up due to the defendant’s behavior and remote location. When back-up arrived, deputies searched of the vehicle and found drugs. Hitchcock ran off, but tripped on a railroad tie and was taken into custody.

Deputies say the found cash, three loaded firearms, multiple rounds of ammunition and 32.997 grams of methamphetamine in Hitchcock’s car. Hitchcock, who has two previous convictions for possession with intent to distribute cocaine in Baldwin County, in 2009 and 2010, admitted he intended to distribute methamphetamine.

“Guns, drugs, fleeing police and prior convictions is the perfect recipe for years in federal prison without parole. Law enforcement in Middle Georgia is committed to finding, arresting and prosecuting criminals who push deadly methamphetamine into our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Charlie Peeler. “I want to thank ATF and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for their work investigating this case.”
