Milledgeville Ethics Committee Meets for First Time

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Milledgeville ethics committee met for the first time Monday to discuss how it will handle the city’s first ethics complaint.

The three board members sat down with the city attorney to nominate a leader and discuss when they will meet again to review the complaint.

This initial meeting comes after a downtown business owner filed an ethics complaint against Milledgeville City Councilman Phillip Joiner earlier this month.

Chairwoman Patricia Hicks says they will conduct a thorough investigation and understands they must come to a decision in a timely manner.

“We want to ensure the general public as well as the complainants realize that we are to act as quickly as possible with any complaint that is brought up,” Hicks said.

The board is meeting again on June 5th to determine if the complaint is valid. If it is, it has 60 days to investigate and must hold at least one hearing to listen to testimony and review evidence.
