PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia’s largest consignment event starts Wednesday at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, offering a large selection of new, used and boutique items for babies, kids, teens and expecting parents.
The event, happening in the 40,000-square-foot McGill building, runs through Sunday and is expected to draw between 6,000 and 10,000 buyers.
How the consignment event benefits buyers and sellers
Laura Johns, the founder of Tykes, Tots, & Teens (TTT), spoke with 41NBC about benefits the sale provides for both sellers and buyers.
“The sellers, they get to clear out their kids’ closet to sell their gently used items, and they get to make money that way,” she said. “So that brings money into their pockets, and then the customers that come in from all over Georgia, even out of state, they get significant savings.”
Amanda Jimenez, a participant as both a seller and shopper, shared how the event has impacted her family.
“It’s just helpful for my family in general just because stuff is so expensive,” she said. “It’s fun to come in here and just see and be able to provide for my son, who grows very quickly.”
Economic impact: Why consignment events are important for families
Raising a child is costly, with estimates from Credit Karma suggesting it can range between $16,000 to $18,000 per year. Parents spend approximately $2,300 annually on clothes and miscellaneous expenses. As costs rise, events like Tykes, Tots, & Teens offer an opportunity for families to stretch their dollars further.
“There’s a lot of us that can’t afford groceries currently,” Johns said. “So clothing and toys and educational materials and even things like birthday and Christmas presents sometimes get put on the back burner, or at least reduced, because they need to be able to afford other necessities that are more important.”
