Middle Georgians Suffer Through Intense Allergy Season

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Record breaking pollen counts are bringing allergy symptoms to some who have never experienced them before.

Steve Wilson says, “I have never had problems with allergies in my life.” Wilson says that was until this week.

“I woke up sniffling and all clogged-up, and I attribute it to the allergies.”

Others have one word to describe the pollen attacks

“The last couple of weeks have been you know killer,” says Derek Sandifer.

Allergy Specialist, Dr. Jeffrey Langford, says the pollen count is ten times what it should be, and he’s seeing people in his office who have never experienced the scratchy throat or sneezing pollen brings.

“They’re 50 and 60 years old saying,’Doc what’s going on I’m not allergic,’ and I test them and they are,” says Langford.

Langford adds the older an allergy sufferer is the more health complications can arise. “These people have a higher risk for allergic asthma.” Langford says that can lead to complications in your respiratory system.

According to Dr. Langford, says there is an allergy shot that can prevent symptoms and actually cuts your risk of getting asthma. He recommends talking to your health care provider if you are interested.
