Middle Georgian Part of A Cappella Group In NBC Singing Competition
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One middle Georgian will be in the national spotlight along with his band in the NBC a cappella singing competition, “The Sing Off.”
Humble as can be, when Austin Brown sings, his voice will amaze you.
The Tifton native and Baldwin High School graduate is apart of Home Free, an a cappella singing group in Top 3 of “The Sing Off.”
Brown is newest addition to the group after the other members were a vacation and discovered him.
“They actually met me on a cruise ship. I was singing with Royal Caribbean and they came on as guest entertainers,” Brown said.
He says the journey to making it on the show was a last minute thing.
And they had no idea they’d make it to the top 3, but they’ve got a niche.
“The thought, wow, there’s never been a country a cappella group before. There’s no much in this community, but there’s never been anybody doing country music. We were like so that can be our key,” Brown said.
Growing up in the church, Brown says he’s been around all types of music, but country and a cappella is where his heart is.
“At the end of the day, I grew up on a farm. Country music just fit. It’s hard to sing without a little bit of a twang,” Brown said. “I’ve always wanted to travel around with a bunch of dudes and make good music, because I’m just so much of an a cappella nerd at heart.”
And he also had some words of encouragement for anyone trying to pursue a dream.
“You have to believe in yourself, and more than that, if you don’t believe in yourself you have to keep going anyway,” Brown said.
