Middle Georgia State University had its Annual Arbor Day Celebration with a planting ceremony of a Shadey Lane Compton Oak
"It really just needed a facelift."

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia State University had its Annual Arbor Day Celebration today with a planting ceremony of a Shadey Lane Compton Oak right in front of the Library.
FFA students from middle and high school were in attendance and according to Middle Georgia State University Grounds Manager Tyler Austin he says the students will later plant various things in the garden over the next two days. We spoke with Austin about why they chose the location for the new ‘Summer Garden’.
“So I picked this location we had on either of these triangles to my left and right. We had two catalpa trees, and that was pretty much it. It was bare soil. There used to be a dogwood here back in the day. So they were bare. It really just needed a facelift. When you walk out the library, you’ve got this amazing courtyard looking at our education building. And I really just wanted to put something to give it some life back,” said Austin.
Austin also says he was ecstatic about the event and words do not do it justice.
You can also make a difference this Friday. For every Facebook, Instagram, and X post with the hashtag #ArborDay, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant a tree.
