Middle Georgia Regional Airport preparing for $2 million repaving project

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Part of Middle Georgia Regional Airport is getting necessary upgrades to keep up with federal regulations.

Doug Faour, the airport’s manager, says part of the runway’s apron — or parking lot for planes — needs repaving and resurfacing. Faour says the cracked, damaged asphalt is a possible safety hazard for planes as tiny pieces of rubble can get into and ruin engines. He adds the project fits into the county’s plans to make Macon a transportation hub for the region.

“The airport obviously plays an important role in that so this project helps us prepare and maintain the airfield in an acceptable state,” Faour said.

It’ll cost more than $2 million in federal, state, and local funding. Macon-Bibb commissioners are expected to supply nearly 95 thousand dollars of the total cost. Faour says he expects the project to be completed by the end of the year.
