Middle Georgia Reacts to Music Hall of Fame Closing Its Doors

The Georgia Music Hall of Fame will close its doors for good on June 12th. Today, Middle Georgian’s say despite its lack of revenue, losing this landmark is taking away a piece of Macon’s luster.

“There’s a foundation here, and I think we’ll lose some sparkle,” says Macon resident, Angela Price.

She’s not the only one who believes moving the collection to the University of Georgia will hurt the city’s landscape.

“I think we’ll realize what we had when it’s gone, but I’m not sure that it was taken advantage of while it was here… I just hate to see it go, it’s going to wind up one more empty building in downtown and that’s not what we need,” says Hummingbird manager, Tim Obelgoner.

Local officials agree stating this loss will prove to be devastating not only for the city of Macon, but for the state of Georgia as a whole.

“Macon is losing the Hall of Fame, but the State of Georgia is losing the ability to display its musical heritage,” says Macon Mayor Robert Reichert.

Chairman of the Bibb County Commission, Sam Hart, says despite the loss, Bibb County will prevail.

“Bibb County will continue to work with the partnerships developed during the fight to keep the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon… and together we will turn this disappointment into a positive outlook for our community.”
