MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Local organizations in Middle Georgia are collecting donations and providing aid to communities in South Georgia following recent hardship.

Lizella Baptist Church is donating items including snacks, water, food, cleaning supplies and clothing to help those in need.

Executive Pastor Rick Parsons said helping others is a core part of the church’s mission.

“We have people in need and were a church that loves people. Christ calls us to love one another and were called to show the love of Christ. And we know that there’s hurting people, in communities in our state, so we want to reach out and try to do all that we can to help them, and to overcome, some of this tragedy that they have experienced,” said Parsons.

Parsons said giving is expected when others are in need.

“We were called to love our community. Jesus came and expressed an amazing love for us when he died on the cross for our sins. Because he loves us, we love others. Were a church that tries to be kingdom focused, so we try to reach out to our community and the communities around us,” said Parsons.

The Salvation Army is also providing support. Central Georgia Integration Coordinator Tim Blevins said the organization has been assisting in South Georgia since Wednesday.

“We plan to be there for seven more days; we started feeding there on Wednesday about 600 meals per day to first responders. also, the American Red Cross, I was told yesterday, that they were setting up a shelter in Brently County,” said Blevins.
