Middle Georgia Man Winning Battle with Homelessness
Kevin Barkley is happy.
“Everything’s gonna work out for the best,” says Kevin, with a loaf of bread in his hand.
He’s got a lot of reasons not to be. Three and a half months ago, he fell off his bike and broke his collarbone, and had to be let go from his job as an airplane mechanic.
“Life just blindsided me, ya know, you don’t expect something to happen and if you’re not prepared like you’re supposed to be, its very–it’s impossible,” he says.
Kevin found himself unable to pay rent, afford food, or take care of his dogs. As an honors graduate from Middle Georgia tech, digging through dumpsters behind pizza places for food or sleeping in abandoned homes surely wasn’t on his life’s agenda, but that’s what it came down to.
