MACON, Georgia (41NBC/ WMGT) – Some Middle Georgia lawmakers are endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, saying that if former President Donald Trump is re-elected, it’ll be harmful for Georgians.

“There is a threat from Trump and Vance that endangers our entire was of life,” Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Elaine Lucas said Thursday. “This is a socio-economic war we’re facing. It’s a race war we’re facing,” State Representative Miriam Paris said.

“We have somebody who’s going to prosecute the case,” State Senator David Lucas said. “Donald Trump cannot get off free. He has to answer to 34 felony charges.”

Just days after Vice President Kamala Harris announced her bid for president, some Middle Georgia lawmakers are fired up to help win the election in November against Trump. They met at the Tubman Museum Thursday afternoon announcing their support for Harris.

“There’s only one candidate that will support our rights and freedoms and that’s Vice President Harris,” Elaine Lucas said.

Macon lawmakers expressed concerns about Project 2025 under Trump’s leadership.

“It’s an extreme blueprint for a second Trump term written by those closest to him,” Lucas said. “It contains detailed plans on how a Trump, Vance admin would ban abortion in all 50 states without the help of congress.”

The lawmakers said Project 2025 plans include ending no fault divorce, ending the Department of Education, restricting access to birth control, ending Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) training and more.

Trump has denied knowledge of the project. “I know nothing about Project 2025,” he posted on Truth Social, his social media website. “I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

Commissioner Lucas says they’re going to make sure everyone gets out to vote by knocking on doors and giving rides to the polls.

Harris is expected to be in Atlanta on Tuesday.
