Middle Georgia Law Enforcement Runs Relay for Special Olympics

Today Middle Georgia took part in the traditional torch relay, passing along the “flame of hope”. The torch began it’s journey in Columbia County and made it’s way through Bibb and Houston County today.

“I hope they get it up there safely because it’s very special to my guys,” says coach James Evans, Happy Hour Service Center.

The torch is a symbol of the Special Olympics set to take place on May 21st through the 23rd at Emory University. It started early this morning at Warner Robins Police Department where a $1500 donation was made to the Happy Hour Service Center’s Team. It was passed on through the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, the Macon SWAT Team, and the Macon Police Department.

“I think the MPD, the Bibb County Sherriff’s Department, and Centerville’s Police Department care deeply about their respective communities and want to be a part of things like this,” says PIO Jami Gaudet, Macon PD.

Tomorrow, the torch will make it’s way through Forsyth. By Friday May 20th, the torch will be burning brightly in Atlanta to kick off the Special Olympics.
