Middle Georgia Election Results
Several Middle Georgia counties held elections today, including Bleckley County, where they elected a new commissioner. Bleckley County is one of 8 counties in Middle Georgia that have just 1 commissioner. Bob Brockman won by a landslide, with 80% of the county’s votes. Barbara Wright, got just 20%. Brockman is replacing the seat left vacant by the resignation of Mike Polsky last October.
In Laurens County, residents came out to vote on a penny tax. Despite a slow turnout early in the day, more than 2,000 voters cast their ballots to vote yes for the SPLOST. 90% of voters agreed to the plan that will raise $53 million dollars over 6 years, to fund various economic developments, and infrastructure projects.
Baldwin County voters also decided on a penny tax today, and they also voted yes. 78% of those who cast a ballot were in favor of the SPLOST. It’s set to raise $40 million dollars over 6 years, and fund law enforcement and fire department improvements, as well as public safety and recreation projects.
