Middle Georgia Community Food Bank expands
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank is expanding its Macon facility to better serve those in need of food.
The expansion is thanks to more than two million dollars in American Rescue Plan funds and state grants. The project calls for adding room for a lobby and administrative space. Renovations on the current building will better support meetings, training and volunteer space.
The expansion will help ease the stress of food distribution as demand continues to increase. In 2020 the Food Bank distributed 12 million pounds of food which is the equivalent of 10 million meals. Even with the lingering effects of Covid still affecting some families, demand still continues to increase thanks to rising prices.
