Middle Georgia Clean Air Coalition Celebrates Decade of Achievement

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Middle Georgia Clean Air Coalition is celebrating a decade of achievement.

Thursday afternoon, local and state leaders gathered at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame to recognize the coalition’s accomplishments over the last ten years.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency set new air quality standards for ground-level ozone and didn’t recommend any middle Georgia counties for non-attainment status.

That means all of middle Georgia meets the EPA’s standards.

“They’re trying to make sure to stay on the cutting edge of different types of fuels and also having a positive impact on air quality,” says State Senator Ross Tolleson (R), District 20.  “Because if we do that, that has a positive impact on being able to get businesses to move to the middle Georgia region. It also protects Robins Air Force Base by staying in attainment vs. non-attainment.”

While right now middle Georgia meets the standard, next year, the EPA is expected to issue new, stricter air quality standards nationwide.
