Middle Georgia business owner using recovery experience to create second-chance jobs
Patrick Dews says his moving company gives employees a workplace where drugs and alcohol are not part of the culture.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – What started as a part-time moving job has grown into a mission driven business across Middle Georgia.
The Spirit Moves has been operating for about four years, expanding from its roots in Macon to a new primary location in Warner Robins.
“We’re a faith-based moving company, and we currently are based here in Middle Georgia, said Patrick Dews, owner and CEO of The Spirit Moves. “We do a lot of work around the state and we’re licensed and insured to go anywhere in the continental 48.”
Dews says the company focuses on being part ministry and part business, with a mission to provide second chance employment opportunities.
For Dews, that mission is personal.
“For years and years and years I myself struggled with addiction, and I even dabbled a good amount in the lifestyle and all that comes with it,” he said. “And in 2019 I got myself in a little run in with the law.”
That experience changed the direction of his life. After getting clean and serving time, Dews returned home with a vision to create a ministry driven business that does more than provide a service.
He wanted to create opportunities and a safe workplace for people who may be facing similar struggles.
“Not only are these guys able to come out and earn some really good money and tips and all that good stuff, but it’s a safe workplace,” he said. “They don’t have to go to work and worry about somebody or them being tempted with partying or drugs and alcohol. It’s just not part of the culture.”
Dews says The Spirit Moves is built around creating a supportive environment where employees can grow while building a future.
