Middle GA Residents Brave the Weather for Verizon’s iPhone 4

Starting February 10th, the 94 million Verizon Wireless customers have access to the Apple iPhone 4, which hit the market  3 years ago exclusively on AT&T.

A crowd of close to 2 dozen people lined up outside the Riverside Verizon Wireless for its 7am opening. Those who waited in line wanted to be the first to get their hands on Verizon’s iPhone.

Eric Martinez joined Verizon on Thursday, because it now carries the phone.  He says he is excited to have access to the phone. “[After] seeing everybody else have one, and now getting the chance to play with it, and mess around with it, and get an upgraded version…I think that’s pretty cool.”

For Martinez, the launch couldn’t have come at a better time.  “My old phone broke two days ago. It split right in two,” says Martinez.

Verizon’s iPhone has a mobile hot spot; it’s a feature AT&T’s doesn’t.  Subscribers can connect up to 5 Wi-fi devices to the phone.

There are other differences between the two carriers as well. Verizon’s iPhone has limited international calling, and simultaneous usage of voice and data is impossible.

The differences, however, didn’t stop consumers from spending $199 for a 16 GB phone or $299 for a 32 GB. According to Verizon, plans on its network range from $69.99 to $119.

New Verizon iPhone 4 owner Deontae Henderson says the price is well worth it, because he is excited to explore the 300,000 applications the phone offers.   Martinez adds, “Just to not have to carry around a phone and an ipod; [to] just have it all in one. Aw I love it.”

Customer Dendrick Franklin even picked up a second phone for someone very special, “I wanted to surprise my wife this morning by getting the iphone and you know I can make her day.”

Verizon Wireless stores nationwide kept shipments coming into stores all day to prevent them from running out.

Verizon Middle Georgia District Manager Hoseas Dammons says the company is expecting to attract more customers because of its new partnership with Apple.
