Mid-Year Financial Review Shows Tough Feedback for Macon
Crunching the budget could be more difficult for the city of
Macon City Council received the mid-year financial report from interim finance director David Smith.
The economic outlook for the remainder of this year is bleak for
Property tax revenue is projected to be down five-percent, and sales tax receipts are down from last year as well.
With the addition of the fire, police, and general employee pension plans this year-
the report projects a deficit of around 4-million dollars. Despite the up hill climb, Macon City Councilman Mike Cranford is optimistic for the future.
“I was glad to see that we were going to have about a million dollars in salary savings because that will offset the lost revenue that we are experiencing so far this year. We’re hoping sales tax projections for next will be a little closer on target,” said
As of December 31, 2010, the city’s total digest is down 2.39 % from what it was projected to be this time last year.
