MGSC Knights Close Out Regular Season Undefeated
EASTMAN, Georgia (MGSC RELEASE) – In the final game of the regular season, the No. 1 ranked (NCFA) Knights of Middle Georgia State College were supposed to have their toughest opponent in Georgia Prep Sports Academy, but the Knights stood strong and kept their perfect regular season intact with a 21-0 win on Saturday at Dodge County High School Stadium.
The Knights and Lions went back and forth in the first quarter before Kion Button (McIntosh County Academy) put the ball in the end zone on a 1-yard TD run and Brayton Smith (Dublin HS) added the extra point to make it 7-0. The Knights threatened a couple of times late in the first half but could not punch it in the end zone and went in at halftime up 7-0.
The third quarter started with the Knights getting the ball, and after being stopped at the 2-yard line, the Knights got the ball back and then scored on a Rico Lyons (Mary Persons HS) 10-yard run to make it 14-0. Button would connect later in the third with Quez Mahoganey (Wilcox County HS) for a 13-yard touchdown and a 21-0 lead. The Knights would hold that lead the rest of the game by playing some great defense.
The defense was led by Monty Wright (Radford HS, HI) and Dominique Jordan (Camden County HS) on defense who each had 7 tackles and 3.5 sacks while Jordan added a forced fumble and Wright had two more tackles for loss. Quintavius Martin (Manchester HS) added 2 sacks while Demetrius McCoy (Howard HS) added another to give the team 10 on the day. Jatavious Owens (Perry HS) added an interception with a forced fumble and recovery on defense.
