Mercer’s Rule Leads at Osprey/Eagle Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (MERCER RELEASE) – Junior Trey Rule leads the field at the Osprey/Eagle Intercollegiate after carding scores of 5-under-par 67 and 3-over-par 75 in Monday’s opening two rounds at Deerwood Country Club. As a team, Mercer’s two-round total of 592 has the Bears in third place on the leaderboard.

Mercer shot 291 in the first round and was atop the team standings, but a 301 total in the day’s second 18 holes positions the Bears two strokes behind Southeastern Louisiana. Vanderbilt leads all teams with a 36-hole score of 583.

Rule’s opening round 67 matched Vanderbilt’s Hunter Stewart for the day’s low round and has the junior one stroke ahead of a trio of competitors for the individual lead. The round also marked the Eatonton, Georgia native’s fifth round in the 60’s this fall.

Senior Hans Reimers and freshman Sean Smothers are tied for 16th place with day one scores of 149. Reimers shot 75-74 while Smothers shot 76-73. Senior James Beale is tied for 43rd place at 153 after booking totals of 74 and 79. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis is 60th after using 155 strokes (75-80) on Monday.

The final round of the Osprey Eagle Intercollegiate is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. start on Tuesday.
