Mercer’s Nwamu Tabbed A-Sun Newcomer of the Week
MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – After reaching double-figure scoring totals in wins over Reinhardt and Seton Hall, Mercer men’s basketball sophomore Ike Nwamu was named the Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week in an announcement by the conference office Monday.
Nwamu averaged 11.5 points and six rebounds per game off the bench to lead Mercer’s reserves. On Wednesday, Nwamu netted 13 points to go along with six rebounds an assist in the rout of Reinhardt. On Saturday, Nwamu booked 10 points, six rebounds, a block and a steal in the Bears’ double overtime win over Seton Hall.
The award comes in just Nwamu’s second week on the floor with Mercer after transferring from Cleveland State following the 2011-12 season. He sat out last year due to NCAA Division I transfer rules.
Through three games, Nwamu is averaging 9.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per outing. He’ll hit the hardwood again as Mercer challenges Evansville on Monday night at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
