Mercer Women’s Golf Takes Sixth at FSU Match Up
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (MERCER RELEASE) – Seniors Lacey Fears and Mary Alice Murphy each tied for 10th place individually as the Mercer women’s golf team took a sixth place finish at the Florida State Match Up on Sunday.
Mercer posted a final round 303 on Sunday to close the tournament at 601. The Bears were one stroke behind Texas A&M for fifth place, while South Carolina captured the tournament title with a score of 586.
Fears shot 73 on Sunday to follow a 76 on Saturday and Murphy posted a 75 on the heels of a Saturday 74. Freshman Haley Austin tied for 23rd place overall at 151 (74-77) while classmate Katy Harris tied for 32nd at 153 (74-79). Freshman Marin Hanna’s Sunday 78 was a four-shot improvement on her Saturday effort and tied her for 52nd place.
Mercer resumes its 2014 slate on March 3, playing at Miami’s Hurricane Invitational. The three-day event is contested at The Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
