MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – On Sunday in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the Mercer Lady Bears secured their first-ever Southern Conference Championship with a sweep in the championship round over number one seed Chattanooga. Mercer won game one 6-5 and game two 5-2 to take the program’s first conference title.

After the celebration Sunday, Head Coach Lindsay Fico and the Lady Bears earned a program-record six players receiving All-SoCon honors, including Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon Tournament, Bears Junior Pitcher Grace Taylor.

Mercer has now won their last five games, 12 of their last 13 and have gone 19-3 in their last 22 games.

With the conference championship win, the Lady Bears have now punched their first ticket in program history to the NCAA Division one World Series National Championship Tournament. Mercer will head to Gainesville, Florida as part of the Gainesville Regional Bracket with Florida, Georgia Tech, and Florida Atlantic.

Mercer’s opening round game will be against the third seed University of Florida Lady Gators on Friday, May 16. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
