The Mercer Bears (6-1, 3-1)) prepare for another tough Southern Conference battle against Western Carolina (4-3, 3-0)
Mercer Bears Prepare For 24th Ranked Western Carolina This Saturday

MACON, GEORGIA – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mercer football program lost their first game of the season Saturday 55-35 to Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.  Now, the six win 14th ranked Bears prepare for another tough Southern Conference test, as they prepare to take on Western Carolina. The first year Bears Head Coach takes accountability for his first loss with the Mercer program, and knows what he has to do to prepare this talented Bears team for another SOCON battle Saturday at Five Star Stadium.

“It’s on me to make sure we are physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to play on game day, and I thought we came out a little flat” said Coach Jacobs Monday afternoon.  “We don’t want to reinvent the wheel when we’ve had a tremendous amount of success because of one poor day. You hope it’s more of an anomaly than something that is consistent. I can promise you, we will put a much better product on the field. Trust me, there is no one that is more frustrated or embarrassed on how we executed, and played on Saturday, than the guys in this building, because those guys care. They have a high level of care and they are chomping at the bit to get to practice {Tuesday}.”

Coach Jacobs went on to say, “We just have to be more consistent. It starts up front. Nothing makes me more infuriating then me as a offensive line guy, feeling like that piece needs to be significantly better. Every week is a battle in the SOCON, and this is a huge game. Their 4-3 overall, yet they are 3-0 in the conference, and we will be tested, but that’s what we want. Two top-25 teams playing a huge game at the end of October going into what is a stretch run. So, we welcome the challenge and we are looking forward to it.”

Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
