Mercer Men’s Soccer Set to Host Incarnate Word and Jacksonville This Week

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – The Mercer men’s soccer team will look to put the finishing touches on a season-long four-game homestand with contests against Incarnate Word and Jacksonville this week at Bear Field.

The Bears take on the Cardinals first on October 10 at 7 p.m. before closing out the weekend against Jacksonville on October 13 at 6 p.m.

Scouting the Opposition

Incarnate Word is in the midst of its first season as a Division I program and is currently competing as an Independent in Men’s Soccer. The Cardinals have held their own thus far, entering play on Thursday with a 3-4-0 overall record. Incarnate Word has had a brutal schedule to date as its game against Mercer will be its eighth-straight away from its home in San Antonio, Texas. Senior midfielder Vincent Bailey paces the Cardinals offense with eight points on four goals.

The Bears dip back into A-Sun Conference play when it welcomes Jacksonville into town on Sunday evening. The Dolphins have a 2-5-1 overall record and will play their A-Sun opener at Lipscomb on Oct. 11. Jacksonville is currently 0-3 outside of the River City so far this season, but did pick up a 2-1 home win over Davidson last time out on Oct. 5. Offense has been a problem area for the Dolphins in 2013 as they have only scored seven goals in eight games played. Freshman Jack Burns and senior Nick Rodriguez share the team lead with six points apiece.
