Mercer Men’s Golf Takes Third at Osprey/Eagle Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (MERCER RELEASE) – After firing a final round team score of 297, the Mercer men’s golf team took home a third-place finish in the Osprey/Eagle Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Deerwood Country Club.

Mercer, which came into the event ranked No. 30 in the Golfstat NCAA Division I relative rankings, recorded a 54-hole score of 889 to finish the event in third-place behind No. 24 Vanderbilt (876) and Tulsa (884).

Senior Hans Reimers paced the Bears, firing a four-under-par 68 to tie for fourth place individually at 217. On Monday, Reimers booked rounds of 75 and 74. The effort marked his second top-five placement this fall and ninth top-10 placement in his collegiate career.

Junior Trey Rule and senior James Beale each finished with 54-hole scores of 223 to finish the event tied for 14th. Rule followed scores of 67 and 75 on Monday with an 81 on Tuesday while Beale carded a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to follow Monday totals of 74 and 79.

Freshmen Sean Smothers and Emmanuel Kountakis signed for 54-hole totals of 230 and 233 to finish in a tie for 46th and 59th in the tournament, respectively. Smothers shot 76-73 on Monday while Kountakis shot 75-80.

Mercer has now concluded its five-event fall schedule and will return to the links in February of 2014 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
