Mercer Football Program Welcomes New Coaches
Mercer’s new head football coach Bobby Lamb·welcomedtwo new members to the Bears’ family. Caroll McCray was brought on as the assistant head coach and offensive line coordinator. Jeff Farington was named defensive coordinator. Both men have experience on the field and spent years working with Lamb at Furman University.
“It’s a great working relationship, I have the utmost respect for both of them, both of them are very experienced and can make great decisions, and that’s what you need. You need experience at the top,” says Lamb.
During his time as head coach at Furman, McCray spent four years working the offense alongside Lamb. Farrington was on the sidelines for all nine seasons as the defensive coordinator.
“I hope that I can bring some experience on dealing with players and motivation, as well as building them up,” says Farrington.
Bringing the bears back to the goal line after a nearly 70 year hiatus is a challenge.
“We’re very anxious because we have not done this before, but I think the excitement is going to overcome the anxiety and we’re going to move this thing over,” says McCray.
There’s no worries from alums like Cal Garrettson. He says bringing these two on board is the right move for Mercer.
“I am super excited… I think the two coaches having the continuity of working with Coach Lamb before will be great.”
