The excitement ran high tonight as the Mercer Bears came out victorious in their first home basketball game at Hawkins Arena.

Fans poured in to watch the Bears play the Reinhardt Eagles to kick off the 2013 season at home.

“I heard that they’re really good so I think they’re gonna win,” said Cantrece Huey, a fan.

“Yeah, I think following last year, we’ve got a pretty good team so I’m excited,” said Sierra Rowden, another fan.

“I think we’ve got a really comprehensive and a cohesive team, and they should do really good this year,” said Jerry Bridges Jr., a fan.

“We’re looking forward to the whole season. These guys have been playing very well the last couple of years,” said Phil Taylor, another fan.

Young fan Katy Bridges said she likes the Bears “because it’s just fun to watch them play,” and she thinks “they’re gonna do great.”

And the Bears not only won tonight’s game, they crushed the Eagles 95-53.
