Mentor’s Project serves hundreds of pounds of food to Macon’s homeless

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Volunteers with the Mentor’s Project are making sure no one goes hungry in Macon. 

The group, along with several people from the Cherry Blossom Festival board, held the 16th annual spring break cookout Tuesday morning. Volunteers served hundreds of pounds of chicken, hot dogs, burgers, and everything in between.

June O’Neal with the Mentor’s Project says while students in Bibb County are on break, it’s important they serve their community.

“They were here at 7:15 a.m. to start putting out the clothes, start helping to cook, carrying the boxes. We want the children to know it’s not all about me, it’s all about everybody,” O’Neal said. 

The group also handed out bags filled with goodies for the kids who were there, as well as donated clothes for the less fortunate.
