Mentor’s Project aims to keep kids learning during the summer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One local non-profit is making sure kids in Macon-Bibb County continue to learn over summer break.

The Mentor’s Project kicked off their annual summer program and leadership academy.

Director June O’Neal says the program is giving kids the opportunity to learn different things including sign language and different science projects, and keep them off of the couch.

“Some children don’t have access to the Internet, and some children need to do something besides hang out and playing video games all summer. We are trying to have many different activities that are fun,” O’Neal said.

She says she’s also planning a vocabulary challenge for the students to get them ready for the SATs.

The program goes on from 9 to noon at Northeast High School until next Friday.
