Medical Waste Plant Draws Concern From Payne City Residents

A medical waste processing plant could be coming to Payne City near ball fields and local restaurants. Residents in the area have questions and concerns about the plant.

“You’re changing your story. Because this doesn’t sound like somebody who’s going to be a straight shooter and do the right thing,” said Susan Martin as she addressed Medsafe Plant Owner, Alan McKee.

The community of PayneCity and BibbCounty asked questions of McKee and received a less than enthused response and little information.

“When somebody doesn’t have the courage to tell the truth in a meeting, you’ve got to wonder about their business practices and what they’re going to be doing if they do locate somewhere,” said Martin.

McKee plans to open a medical waste plant that will use chlorine to sterilize “red bag” waste from hospitals and medical facilities. Red Bag waste is generally defined as any solid waste generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals, it can include body parts, blood, and surgical instruments. After the questions piled up, McKee had enough.
