Medical Center of Peach County raises money to continue expanding
It’s still expanding and hoping to offer more services.
Saturday morning, the hospital hosted its second annual Peach Road Race to help it grow.
The race showed how runners racing a long way can help a little money go the distance.
“It’s a good organization, and every little dollar helps,” said runner Michelle Beard.
Little dollars turned into big bucks Saturday.
“The hospital is a community hospital and to get funds and have the community contribute to help raise the funds just makes it even more fantastic,” said runner and Medical Center employee Cassandra Williams.
More than 150 runners ran to help raise nearly $10,000 to help the Medical Center of Peach County.
“I have a sister that has chronic asthma, she’s constantly in and out of the Medical Center.”
“This was a worthwhile event so that we could partner, we could promote health initiatives. That’s one thing that we’re–that’s our goal,” said runner Kristie Kenney.
The Peach County Medical Center has been open since last June–and it’s hoping to expand.
“It helps us generate some funds to do some other things–to get some other equipment, offer some new services, so we’re pretty excited about the level of support of the community,” said CEO of the Medical Center Nancy Peed.
Peed was among the runners–she says the Medical Center will use the money to buy a machine to help doctors treat lungs.
“We’re looking to generate some funds to purchase another bronchoscopy unit and that’s the unit that will go down–has a little camera, goes down into the lungs and helps look at them and determine what’s wrong and maybe do some biopsies or samples so you can see if there’s any cancer or things like that,” said Peed.
Sometimes, all it takes is a few little dollars to help ensure something priceless–life.
Sponsors including Fort Valley State University gave about $6,000 to the Medical Center as a part of the $10,000 the race helped raise.
